EDISON LIGHTHOUSE

70S RECORDING GROUP

Edison Lighthouse are a chart-topping band from the seventies that are still performing live in the UK and Europe. Their biggest hit was 'Love Grows', holding the number one spot for five weeks in 1970.

After the phenomenal viral success of Love Grows being used on TikTok, amassing 4 BILLION views in a matter of weeks, the band members have worked with Island Records and Universal Music to bring out a new version of this great song called,

'Love Grows (In Rosemary's Disco)'.

A Remastered version of Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes), was released shortly after,

Love Grows - Wild & Free Remix.

By Demon Music Group.

It is very exciting for the Band to be releasing these new dance versions of 'Love Grows' after enjoying nearly fifty years on the road.

The Tony Macauley/Barry Mason composition 'Love Grows' provided the first breakthrough for session singer Tony Burrows and Edison Lighthouse in 1970, selling 4.5 million copies worldwide. While Tony Burrow's success continued with White Plains, Brotherhood of Man, and First Class, his original backing group toured briefly under the name Edison.

Tony Macauley meanwhile retained the name Edison Lighthouse, and found another line-up for touring and recording. "It's up to you Petula" provided a second hit in 1971, and this line-up maintained the success with live appearances entertaining audiences around the world and building a reputation for providing Top Class Entertainment. Edison Lighthouse have numerous accolades including being voted The Best 60's Band at the Butlins Festival of the 60s, which is the biggest event of its kind in the country. The band performs at most of the UKs prestigious venues and holiday centres and has worked regularly for for Cunard on the Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria.

Since the early 1970s, the band has featured Brian Huggins, the band's lead vocalist, and front-man,

Peter Butt, on Bass Guitar and vocals,

With Dick Judd on drums/vocals, being replaced in 2013 by seasoned player and premier drums endorsee Stephane Booroff. Mark Forton joined the band in 2020 to present day. Mark is also an accomplished session player and worked on our 2022 recording, 'Love Grows in Rosemary's Disco' for Island Records.

Rick Foster, our lead guitarist/ vocals and songwriter, was replaced by multi-instrumentalist, Rick

Piggott completing the line-up.

The fact that Edison Lighthouse is still in demand as a live act is a testimony of their ability to entertain and engage any audience.

ALAN, LEAD GUITAR AND VOCALS

Original member of The Foundations.

Alan started playing in a band at school, one of the‘more liberal’ teachers used to let them rehearse after school hours.

In the early 1960s, after leaving school at the age of fourteen, he played with several semi-professional groups, playing local gigs, before turning professional two years later.

He went over to Ireland playing with a band called The Line-up, playing clubs and dance halls in and around Dublin. When they split up, he decided to go back to the UK. However, just before he was about to leave, the manager of a group called The Black Eagles, asked him to join them. He went along and ran through some songs with them. Although it was great and they got on well, he had made up his mind to go back to the UK.. The Black Eagles, bass player Phil Lynott, went on to become the front man for Thin Lizzy.

On returning home, Alan started getting into the Soul/Tamla music. He went for an audition with a Ska/Reggae/soul band called The Ramongs later to become the Foundations who had Hits such as: Baby, now that I’ve found you, Back on my feet again, Build me up Buttercup, Bad, Bad old days ( before you loved me) etc.

The Foundations with Alan at the helm are still performing today.

Alan has also backed Artistes such as Edwin Starr, Jet Harris, Billie Davis, Mike Berry, Arthur Brown, Vince Eager, Wayne Fontana….as well as touring alongside Stevie Wonder, the Bee Gees, Genesis, Zoot Money, Jaki Graham, Geno Washington.

PETE, BASS

From the age of 8 Pete was learning to play the piano and violin, but after hearing the skiffle group rehearsing next door all he wanted to do was play guitar. It wasn’t until he was 16 that he saved up enough money from a Saturday job at the Co-op to buy his first guitar - a sunburst Hofner Galaxie.

Within a year he had teamed up with Brian, quit his job and gone ‘professional’ with Edison Lighthouse, travelling all around the UK (pre most motorways) when gigs were aplenty.

He switched to playing bass in 1973 and still loves playing.

His hobbies are sailing his 9m yacht around south coast of England with frequent trips across the channel, watching snooker, F1, and cricket.
