Alex Lloyd Williams - classical guitarist - playing guitar

ALEX LLOYD WILLIAMS

Alex is a professional guitarist teaching and performing in Staffordshire and beyond for the last ten years prior to which he was based in the North West. He has performed at many weddings functions and arts events: Preston Guildhall Theatre; Lichfield music festival; Shugborough Hall; Staffordshire County Show; Stafford Gatehouse Theatre; and supported John Otway.

Alex has been playing for 30 years; starting comparatively late for a classical player aged 13 he nevertheless took to the instrument very quickly. He then took Grade 5 as his first exam within two years and quickly went on to learning Grade 8 and recital pieces. He simultaneously built up experience in differing styles of music and has been in various bands playing styles such as rock pop indie and reggae. The first wedding he played at was that of a pupil who asked for an arrangement of Van Morrison’s romantic classic Have I Told You Lately? More unusual requests have included playing the Bridal March and Here Comes the Bride in the style of Jimi Hendrix! So provided enough notice is given arrangements by special request are no problem.

His classical repertoire generally includes the main styles of renaissance/baroque (eg. Dowland and Bach);  Latin-American (Lauro and Villa-Lobos); Classical Romantic Spanish (Tarrega and Llobet); and various other composers. He has also started to include jazz in his repertoire played either on the classical or on a traditional jazz guitar and one or two folk tunes such as Bert Jansch’s arrangement of Black Water Side. Alex is constantly working on broadening his repertoire across these styles.
